INCLUSION – THIS IS THE NORM!

SKEP’s 1rst Awareness Campaign was implemented for the launch of the Disability Awareness Hub www.hoponinclusion.com, in December 2022. Life-size installations of people with disabilities were placed in the Syntagma Metro and in 8 central theaters of Athens.

The thought process behind SKEP’s campaign

15% of the population lives with a disability. However, if we look around us, we will notice that people with disabilities are rarely found among us. We don’t encounter them in cities, in stores, in our workplaces or where we have fun. It’s like they’re missing from the picture… and this must change because it’s not the norm!

This is the central issue which SKEP’s campaign focuses on, aiming to deconstruct stereotypes and bias, to change our attitude towards diversity and bring us a step closer to an inclusive society.

This awareness campaign functioned as a living installation and had as main goal to convey a simple and clear message, “This is the norm!”, to be all together, everywhere. In schools, at work, at entertainment venues and social events and in our daily lives. This message was accompanied by full sized figures of people with disability that were placed in the metro, on theater seats and in numerous other places, in Athens, Greece.

In this simple yet clear manner, SKEP is providing a vivid stimulation to all of us. It challenges us to question why we don’t see the 15% of people with disability among us and make us realize that what excludes them from our daily existence are the obstacles that we as a society place in front of them.

The campaign was designed and implemented by the advertising agency Avakon+.
